EXCEPTIONAL 19TH-CENTURY AMERICAN FOLK ART TINSEL "BOUQUET" PAINTING

This exceptional 19th-century American folk art tinsel "Bouquet" painting depicts a richly detailed floral bouquet rendered in reverse-painted glass with metallic foil and reflective accents against a black ground. Popular in America from the mid 19th century onward, tinsel paintings combined painted glass, crumpled foil, and ornamental detailing to create luminous compositions that shimmered under candlelight. Related examples are held in the collection of the American Folk Art Museum, where floral tinsel paintings are recognized as important examples of early American decorative arts.
