18TH-CENTURY AMERICAN FAUX PAINTED CHEST OF DRAWERS

Sale price$8,500.00

This early American chest of drawers features an extraordinary faux painted surface designed to imitate richly figured wood grain and mottled stone finishes, a decorative technique popular in rural American furniture during the 18th century. Constructed in pine or another regional hardwood with hand wrought brasses, the piece reflects the resourceful craftsmanship of early American cabinetmakers who used paint decoration to emulate more expensive imported woods.
