EARLY 18TH-CENTURY "VERDURE TAPESTRY" FRAGMENT

Sale price$16,500.00

This early 18th-century verdure tapestry fragment depicts a lush pastoral landscape with flowering foliage, architectural ruins, and a crane beside a winding stream, motifs commonly associated with Flemish and Aubusson tapestry workshops of the period. Woven primarily in wool with areas of silk highlighting, verdure tapestries were prized for their richly layered greens and botanical imagery, designed to bring an idealized vision of nature into grand interiors. Comparable examples of floral and landscape verdure tapestries from France and Flanders appear in museums and documented textile collections, particularly those connected to Aubusson production and late Baroque decorative arts.
