20TH-CENTURY ITALIAN "PIETRA DURA" LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Sale price$2,200.00
NEW

This Italian pietra dura landscape depicts a stylized coastal scene with ruins and distant architecture, composed from precisely cut hardstones to create tonal depth and naturalistic detail. Pietra dura, developed in Florence under the Medici workshops in the 16th century, uses semi precious stones such as jasper, agate, and lapis lazuli to form intricate images that emulate painting. By the 19th century, these finely assembled scenes were widely produced as decorative panels, reflecting a continued fascination with classical landscapes and the technical mastery of Italian stone inlay.

  • Medium: Semi-precious stones
