A finely worked 19th-century French embroidered panel depicting a classical mythological scene with winged putti, draped figures, and a chariot drawn across the clouds in the style of Aubusson and petit point tapestry designs. Hand stitched in wool and silk threads on canvas, panels of this kind were often created as decorative furnishings or wall hangings inspired by Greco Roman imagery popular in the French decorative arts of the period. Comparable French needlepoint and tapestry fragments appear in surviving Aubusson and theatrical textile panels from the 19th century.
