19TH-CENTURY AMERICANA FRAMED WALLPAPER BOX PANEL

Sale price$5,500.00

This 19th century Americana wallpaper bandbox panel depicts the New York Institution for the Deaf and Dumb, a subject reflecting the era’s fascination with civic architecture and reform institutions. Wallpaper covered bandboxes were typically made from bentwood or pasteboard and finished with printed paper, transforming everyday storage objects into distinctive examples of American folk art. The stylized architecture and aged surface preserve the character of early American decorative arts, with related “Deaf and Dumb Asylum” motifs documented in historic bandbox collections such as the Shelburne Museum.
